Songwriters Paul Jefferson & Suzanna Spring

Paul Jefferson & Suzanna Spring at Tommy T's, 5104 Hopyard Rd, Pleasanton, CA

Paul Jefferson Combining elements of country, bluegrass, and folk music, singer/songwriter Paul Jefferson writes songs that concentrate on positive examinations of love, whether it be romantic or spiritual. Jefferson's first taste of success was as a songwriter, co-writing Aaron Tippin's chart-topper "That's as Close as I'll Get to Loving You." Hailing from the hills and ranches of Woodside, CA, in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Palo Alto, he began listening to country music as a child. While attending college for engineering, Jefferson -- who is also a pilot -- developed a large regional following playing in a country band, eventually striking out on his own and marketing a tape of his original songs. After signing a publishing deal in L.A., the company took him to Nashville where he linked up with the newly formed Almo Sounds record label, started by music veterans Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. Paul Jefferson has had his songs recorded by Keith Urban, Little Texas and Buddy Jewell, among others, and his writing credit include singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

Suzanna Spring "I've always been drawn to outsiders," says this classically trained musician and artist who grew up on both coasts, many parts in between, and now calls northern California home. Her first solo CD effort received NAshville's Music Row DISCovery Award, drawing comparisons to kindred spirits Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffin. Following the release of her song "Time" as a single for Nashville recording artist Doug Stone, a mutual, musical love-at-first listen led to the creation of Suzanna Spring & The Surly Jack@sses, a group of amazing and versatile players: Paul Schimmelman on bass, Art Thompson on electric guitar, with TFP drummer Joe O’Loughlin, pedal steel player John Gay, and violinist Jim Hurley. The band adds groove, grit and wit to Nashville songwriter Spring’s brooding lyrics and earworm melodies. Suzanna Spring has been a featured artist twice at SXSW Music Festival in Austin, on WPLN's Words & Music show, Tin Pan South Festival in Nashville, and concerts on both coasts.
